Along with the improvement of the hygienic regulation of unfavorable factors of the working environment, the improvement of working conditions and labor protection, a very promising reserve for preserving the health of workers is the rational distribution of workers on the basis of targeted professional selection. At the same time, it is known that the individual characteristics of the functional state of the human body significantly affect the direct results of its production activity [6].

The purpose of the research was to study changes in the functional state of the body of miners of different ages and work experience and to develop on this basis criteria for assessing their professional suitability in the professions of mining excavation machine operators.

Using the criterion of sigma deviations, zones corresponding to a satisfactory functional state of the auditory and visual analyzers and the central nervous system were identified in the assessment scales of physiological and psychophysiological indicators (V.P. Grebnyak, 1976). Thus, for a professional group of mining excavation machine operators with work experience in their specialty for at least three years, the zones of satisfactory assessments were: for the volume of auditory and visual memory - not less than 48 and 45%, respectively, for the time of the visual-motor reaction with differentiation - not more than 45.0 s [1,2,3,4,5] for visual acuity at low illumination - not less than 0.28 uel. units, for hearing acuity at a frequency of 4000 Hz - no more than 40 dB, in terms of orientation ability in space - not less than 50%.

The developed rating scales of psychophysiological qualities of mining excavation machine operators were tested in the laboratory of professional selection of workers at the Makeevugol Production Association.

Rational employment of workers, taking into account the individual capabilities of their body, is an effective preventive measure that ensures a decrease in industrial injuries and morbidity of miners with temporary disability.
