The current state of occupational morbidity in Ukraine

Problems of occupational pathology are acquiring special relevance at the present time, when the working conditions of workers in the leading sectors of the national economy in the overwhelming majority of cases do not correspond to hygienic standards. The sanitary service is not able to change the existing situation due to the difficult unfavorable socio-economic situation in the country, and the level of medical services for workers remains low.
At present, pronounced forms of occupational pathology are still registered in Ukraine, which is associated not only with the low quality of medical examinations, but also with the reluctance of the administration of enterprises to facilitate the identification of occupational diseases. The early detection of occupational diseases is also not facilitated by the sanitary service; the characteristics of working conditions often hide the true state of affairs at enterprises. One gets the impression that only those patients for whom it is no longer possible to conceal an occupational disease are sent for consultation to occupational disease clinics.
The improvement of medical care for workers in harmful professions, apparently, can be realized through the organization of an occupational medicine service, which is a functional unity of the occupational health departments of the SES and the medical and sanitary units of enterprises [7]. The medical and prophylactic institutions created in this way, staffed with appropriately trained personnel in occupational medicine, will be able to ensure the timely identification of hygienically unfavorable production areas and their elimination, early diagnosis of developing health disorders of workers, the development and implementation of rational medical and sanitary measures.
