The Laboratory was established in 1996 on the basis of Laboratory of industrial microclimate (1928 - 1993), Laboratory of noise and vibration (1953 - 1993) and Laboratory of industrial lighting (1928 - 1982 )
The founders of the Laboratory were outstanding scientists – Corr. Member of AMS of the USSR G.Kh. Shakhbazyan, Prof. М.К. Vitte, Prof. I.М. Еrman, Prof. О.О. Меnshov, Cand. med. sci. А.E. Кіriyenko. In different years thw following scientists worked in the Laboratory: Corr. Member of NAMS of Ukraine V.І. Chernyuk, Prof. F.М. Shleifman, Dr. med. sci. L.А. Gvozdenko, Dr.med.sci. Е.P. Оrlovska, and others.

The main areas of scientific activity of the Laboratory are: study of mechanisms of isolated and combined effect of physical factors (noise, vibration, electromagnetic fields, microclimate, lighting, etc.) on the human body; substantiation and improvement of hygienic norms regarding physical factors in the production environment; development and implementation of preventive measures; certification of personal protective equipment. The Laboratory has a fruitful scientific collaboration with the leading institutions of the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Among the main developments of the Laboratory for the practice of health care, since 1996 are 9 State Sanitary Rules and Norms, 29 Standards of Ukraine, 3 patents for utility model. The latest developments - sanitary and hygienic requirements to the use of radiant heating systems in industrial premises (Methodical recommendations, Kyiv, 2008) and methodological recommendations "Criteria for classification of industrial facilities by their degree of danger to the health of workers" (Kyiv , 2005), "Prevention of human ophthalmologic pathology in extreme conditions" (Kyiv, 2008). In 2004, the Laboratory staff conducted studies on conditions and way of life at the Antarctic station “Academician Vernadsky”.
At present, the main areas of research are: determine the specificity of the effect of new factors of the production environment - hypogeomagnetic field and LED lighting on the human body. As a result, hygienic recommendations for optimization of the light environment in the use of LED light sources (taking into account their color temperature) and the geomagnetic background in production and office premises are proposed. The perspective direction of the scientific research is further study of mechanisms of the combined effect of physical factors of different nature.
The achievements of the Laboratory specialists together with the Institute of Physics of Semiconductors named after. V.E. Lashkaryev of the National Academy of Sciences in the organization of manufacture and hygienic certification of energy-efficient LED lighting systems was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in science and technology in 2016.
